もしFacebook上の友人の死亡がわかった場合、申請フォームを通して当該アカウントをMemorializedすることで、その友人のアカウントが生前に”Friends”の関係にあった友人のみが参照または検索可能な”保護された状態”のアカウントに変更できる。つまり亡くなったユーザのアカウントを永久に凍結し、親しい友人のみが墓参りに訪れることができるようなものとなる。友人との思い出を酒の肴に、グループ同士でまた語り合うのもいいだろう。Facebookによれば、亡くなった人物のプロファイルはきちんと保護され、取り扱いに注意すべき情報の秘匿には細心の注意を払うと説明している。
